We are pleased to share information about a new book written by CAS Associate Director and Associate Professor of History Tim Weston. See below for a description of the book. Tim will be holding a book signing event at Boulder Bookstore; more information is available at http://www.boulderbookstore.net/event/timothy-weston-china-and-beyond-headlines.

My new co-edited book (with Lionel M. Jensen), China in and beyond the Headlines, was recently published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.  The essay collection, which is the third that I have co-edited in a series on contemporary China, offers readers a panoramic view of today's China by focusing in depth, but in a highly accessible fashion, on important subjects both in the news and not so much in the news.  Subjects addressed in the book by experts in their areas include: the Internet and media, human rights, youth culture, legal reforms, ethnic tensions, urbanization, the environment, homosexuality, military defense, and the growth of tourism.

China in and beyond the Headlines grows out of a conference by the same name held at CU Boulder two years ago.  That conference was funded most generously by the National Committee on Untied States-China Relations, which is dedicated to the promotion of mutual understanding between the United States and China.  The conference was also generously supported by the Center for Asian Studies at CU Boulder.
