Laura Devendorf assistant professor, attends Sketching in Hardware , an annual meeting exploring design tools for embedded hardware, Sept. 27-30 in Detroit, Michigan.

Researchers from ATLAS Institute's THING, ACME and Unstable Design labs took home "Best Paper" and "Best Pictorial" awards as well as contributed four research presentations at the ACM conference on Designing Interactive Systems (DIS '19), held in San Diego, June 23-28.

The Unstable Design Lab welcomes Finland-based Sandra Wirtanen, a recently graduated designer from Aalto University, as a practice-based researcher-in-residence for July and August.

"Envisioning Reflective, Relaxing, and Restorative Design with ASMR," authored by Josephine Klefeker and Laura Devendorf, was presented by lead author, Klefeker, during the works-in-progress track of the 2019 Designing Interactive Systems Conference (DIS '19). Klefeker is an undergraduate researcher in the Unstable Design Lab, where her research interests include using technology to provoke introspection as well as to develop meditative forms of interaction.

Lea Albaugh is a PhD student in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where her research interests include textiles fabrication, design for bodies and spaces and interactive narrative. Mikhaila Friske and Shanel Wu, PhD students and researchers in the Unstable Design Lab, along with Nathalia Capreuguer França, a visiting research student from Università di Trento, organized Antiuniversity Now: (re)claimed workshop series at the Boulder Public Library, June 21-22.

Laura Devendorf gave a keynote presentation at the Symposium of Computational Fabrication at Carnegie Mellon University, June 16, where she presented her research on smart textiles and wearable technology. Devendorf is an assistant professor at the ATLAS Institute and the director of the Unstable Design Lab, where her research interests include smart textiles, human-computer interactions (HCI) and design research.

Unstable Design Lab director Laura Devendorf visited the Carnegie Mellon Textiles Lab to participate in a week-long "textiles jam" in June.
