Lucie Vleugels
Creative Industries Master's Student
ATLAS Institute

Lucie Vleugels completed her undergraduate degree in May 2018 at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. She studied Cognitive Science & Spanish, with key interests in language acquisition, learning theory, and mental models.

From 2019-2022, she worked with Microsoft’s Semantic Machines team to support the development of their dynamic conversational AI system. While improving the data production life-cycle and development experience, she became enamored by the multitude of unanswered questions around decision-making and language ambiguity. These mysteries motivated her to return to school to study Human-Computer interaction.

Now Lucie is Creative Technology & Design Master’s student also working to complete the Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Science within The ICS.  She aims to investigate the nature of learning processes and how to enrich an educational experience with embodied design principles and creative emerging technologies.

Fun fact: In eighth and ninth grade, Lucie attended a classical ballet academy, The Kirov Academy of Ballet, where she lived, danced, and studied full-time with a highly diverse international group of students who all had the goal of becoming professional dancers.
