John worked for almost twenty years on SketchUp, a simple but powerful digital sketching tool for architects, designers, and all kinds of people who make things. SketchUp has won numerous awards, including "3D Product of the Year" and a "5 Mice" rating from Macworld Magazine. In the last year alone, there have been over 30 million unique user activations of SketchUp on macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, Web, and a range of XR device platforms—making it arguably the most widely used 3D modeling product in the world.

Prior to SketchUp, John was a professional design consultant working on a wide range of architectural and urban design projects in both Europe and the U.S. He holds a BArch from The Cooper Union and an MArch from Rice University. John's first book, "Digital Sketching: Computer-aided Conceptual Design" was published by Wiley in 2020.
