John Bacus is Vice President of Product Management for the Design & Engineering Group at Trimble, where he works on new product development and Trimble's cross-divisional product strategy for the AEC industry. Now included in a broader portfolio, John has worked for almost twenty years on SketchUp, a simple but powerful digital sketching tool for architects, designers, and all kinds of people who make things. SketchUp has won numerous awards, including "3D Product of the Year" and a "5 Mice" rating from Macworld Magazine. In the last year alone, there have been over 30 million unique user activations of SketchUp on macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, Web, and a range of XR device platforms— making it arguably the most widely used 3D modeling product in the world.
Prior to his experience with SketchUp, John was a professional design consultant working on a wide range of architectural and urban design projects in both Europe and the U.S. He holds a BArch. from The Cooper Union, and an MArch. from Rice University. John's first book, "Digital Sketching: Computer-aided Conceptual Design" was published by Wiley in 2020.
