Disintoxication

Disintoxication is an immersive, multi-phase experience exploring the psychological and social impacts of excessive media consumption while empowering participants to reclaim their attention and creative agency. The B2 residency will serve as the creative hub, bringing together international artist Jupiterfab, myself (Annie Margaret), and a team of CU students to craft an evocative installation blending visual art, sound, and guided reflection.
The project unfolds in three interconnected parts:
- A Live Mural in ATLAS (in collaboration with Local StreetWise Arts Festival) – A participatory mural painted inside the ATLAS building, increasing community engagement with campus and B2. Passersby will be invited into conversations about digital overwhelm and cultural disconnection. With consent, these conversations will be recorded and later integrated into the immersive experience.
- Disintoxication – An Immersive Installation at B2 – A multi-sensory environment that simulates the chaos of media saturation through overwhelming visuals and sound designed by CU student artists. This overstimulation gives way to stillness, where audience members are guided to break free from digital saturation and reconnect with deeper awareness. Jupiterfab will paint live as immersive nature sounds and visuals surround him, with soft lighting and cozy seating inviting reflection and connection. In collaboration with grant-funded researchers at RMIT in Australia studying the impacts of social media bans on youth, interviews with youth will play throughout this space, serving as a powerful call to action.
- Reillusionment – A Meditation Experience at Fiske Planetarium – A contemplative journey under vast projections of nature, reinforcing the project's themes and fostering cross-campus artistic collaboration. (A stretch goal, as creating visuals for Fiske may prove challenging.)
