Academic Course Map for Spanish (B.A.)
In the Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish (SPAN) at CU Boulder students study the culture and history of Spanish-speaking countries while gaining fluency in the Spanish language. Spanish majors learn to write and speak Spanish and then shift their focus to reading sophisticated Spanish texts and become acquainted with the history of Spanish and Spanish ¬American literature. Students gain a foundational knowledge of the history and culture of countries in which Spanish is spoken and are prepared for a career in our increasingly globalized world.
Majors learn about the Spanish-speaking world within a multicultural and diverse community. Graduates enjoy careers in education, public administration, health care, medicine, law, the arts and NGOs, and the degree supports an active secondary teaching certification program, which prepares future Spanish instructors for the growing demand for secondary Spanish teachers.
Admission Requirements
Students who begin at a Colorado Community College can transfer directly to CU Boulder to finish their degree in any of the programs offered by the College of Arts and Sciences. **In the Spanish for the Profession track students are required to take 12 credit hours outside of Spanish in a certificate program, minor, second major or degree related to their professional interests. Students must fulfill the prerequisites for the relevant program. The Business Minor, or the Public Health Certificate, or the Technology, Arts and Media Certificate are recommended. Courses meeting this requirement must be approved by the faculty director of the major.
