Popular eclipse trip leader Dr. Doug Duncan offers another total solar eclipse trip, with outstanding speakers, in the very interesting city of Zaragoza in Northern Spain.
This will be an unusual eclipse. With the sun low in the sky, we expect to see the awesome cone-shaped shadow of the eclipse stretching across the sky. It will engulf us about half an hour before the sun sets. Eerie and memorable!
Zaragoza was chosen because it has the best weather prospects of any site for the Aug. 12, 2026 total eclipse. Also, it has many sites to see, including a Roman amphitheater, a Muslim palace, and one of the earliest and largest Catholic churches, dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
We will stay in the Zaragoza Gran Hotel, at the edge of the old city, which we will tour with local guides. One mid-day will be devoted to exploring and tasting the many outstanding tapas restaurants of the neighborhood.
We also will visit the 11th century Islamic Aljafería Palace (Castle).
The trip will start and end in Madrid, Spain. The price of $3295 includes all our activities, hotel, food, and local transportation. Participants arrive at the Madrid airport on August 10, using their own favorite travel plans, economical or fancy. Many will choose to stay after the eclipse trip and do more exploring of Spain. Cain Travel can assist with air travel and additional touring in Spain.
We will meet everyone at the Madrid airport and take you to the airport Marriot for a welcoming dinner and orientation talks. The morning of Aug. 11, we will take the 180 mph high-speed train to Zaragoza, a speedy one hour and 15 minute train ride! August 12 is eclipse day. The day after the eclipse, Aug. 13, we return to Madrid on the high-speed train. If anyone wants to go from Zaragoza to Barcelona rather than Madrid, at trip’s end, we can arrange that.
Dr. Duncan spent years doing commentary on National Public Radio, the History Channel, and BBC, and he knows some of the most interesting and compelling speakers, who he invites on eclipse trips. All are friendly and mingle with our group. You may read about them on the “Speaker Bio” page.
