Celebrating Student Excellence in Chinese and Japanese Studies

We are proud to celebrate our students who have been inducted into national honor societies recognizing outstanding academic achievement, dedication, and engagement in Chinese and Japanese language studies. These honors reflect our students’ hard work, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to language learning and cultural understanding.
 

National Collegiate Chinese Honor Society (CLTA)

The National Collegiate Chinese Honor Society, sponsored by the Chinese Language Teachers Association (CLTA), recognizes college students who have demonstrated excellence in Chinese language study and meaningful engagement with Chinese culture. Inducted students receive an official certificate and join a nationwide academic community devoted to advancing Chinese language education.

Academic Eligibility

Students are selected based on:

  • Full‑time enrollment
  • Completion of five semesters (or eight quarters) of college‑level Chinese or placement into third‑year Chinese
  • Current enrollment in sixth‑semester Chinese
  • A minimum 3.5 GPA in Chinese coursework and 3.0 overall GPA
  • Engagement with Chinese language or culture through academic or community activities
  • A strong record of conduct both in and outside the classroom

Japanese National Honor Society – College Chapter (JNHS–CC)

The Japanese National Honor Society – College Chapter (JNHS–CC) honors students who have shown sustained academic excellence and dedication to the study of Japanese language and culture. Supported by the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ), JNHS–CC promotes high standards in Japanese language education and encourages students to apply their skills beyond the classroom.

Academic Eligibility

Membership is awarded to students who demonstrate:

  • Completion of advanced undergraduate Japanese coursework
    • 4‑year institutions: 5 semester or 7 quarter courses
    • 2‑year institutions: 3 semester or 5 quarter courses
  • All courses taken for a grade (no audit or pass/fail)
  • A 3.5 GPA in Japanese language courses
  • An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
