The application students use to apply for financial aid has undergone substantial changes for the fall 2024 and spring 2025 school year. The Department of Education has been implementing changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as mandated by federal law through the FAFSA Simplification Act and the FUTURE Act.

The changes to the FAFSA are intended to simplify the application for students and their families, including a more user-friendly format and enhanced data sharing with the IRS. Review the changes to the 2024–25 financial aid application for more details.

FAFSA Simplification Training for campus partners

The Offices of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services are hosting a virtual FAFSA Simplification Training for CU Boulder campus partners and scholarship administrators. The training will take place over Zoom on Wednesday, March 20, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. An overview of FAFSA changes will be provided for the first half of the training, and then additional details on scholarship review timing will be offered for scholarship administrators.

Please register if you’re interested. The event will be recorded and made available to registrants.

Financial aid timeline, confirmation extension

Due to national delays impacting financial aid this year, CU Boulder extended the confirmation date from May 1 to June 1 for first-year students admitted for fall 2024. The extended date provides more time for students to consider their financial options before deciding where to attend. We expect to begin notifying students of their aid in late April.
