USAID Sustainable WASH Systems Learning Partnership

Daniel Hollander is a Senior Professional Research Assistant, and the Director of the CU-led Sustainable WASH Systems Learning Partnership, a five-year, $15 million USAID program that explores systems-based approaches to improving the sustainability of water and sanitation services.

A licensed hydraulic engineer by trade, he has been working on international water and infrastructure challenges, as well as water resources management initiatives for over ten years. Over the past eight years, he has supported USAID activities as both a USAID officer and a contractor/grantee, including both long- and short-term assignments. He served as a Engineering Foreign Service Officer at USAID/West Bank & Gaza (including as acting director of the $1.4B Water Resources and Infrastructure Office, and as technical support to U.S.-brokered Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations), and at USAID/Asia Regional Mission in Bangkok., where he focused on hydropower development along the Mekong River. He received multiple State Department awards for policy and programmatic initiatives he led in the West Bank, and on the Lower Mekong. His short-term assignments include support to activities in over 12 countries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.  

Before joining USAID, Daniel worked as a water resource engineer, focusing on domestic river basin management projects, and urban flood prevention modeling. Dan earned both his B.S. and M.S. at the University of Illinois, where he studied and served as a graduate research assistant at the Ven Te Chow Hydrosystems Lab.
