Biography

Robert Scott is a Lecturer in the Arts and Sciences Residential Academic Programs at the University of Colorado Boulder. He completed his PhD in sociology in 2025. Drawing on his firefighting experience as well as primary interview data, his research examines wildland firefighters’ responses to peer fatalities in the line of duty, including how such deaths affect ongoing work performance. He has received private and public funding for his research. His paper in Qualitative Sociology includes some of his findings. An earlier version won the 2022 Herbert Blumer Award from the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of social psychology, social theory, and research methods. His teaching experience includes training firefighters as a Provincial Training Officer for the Government of Saskatchewan, teaching undergraduate students as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Victoria, and teaching undergraduate students as a Teaching Assistant and Graduate Part-Time Instructor at the University of Colorado Boulder.
