Angie Chavez-Lopez is the Assistant Director for the Precollege Bridge Program. Angie was born in Brighton, CO, and is a proud Colorado native. She is a first-generation student who earned her bachelor’s degree in economics and master’s degree in educational Foundations Policy and Practice from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her thesis was based on the importance of Family engagement and language competency for Latinx communities in Precollegiate and Post-secondary stages of a student’s life.
Angie is a proud CU-Boulder alumnus! She has worked at CU Boulder for 6+ years in the Office of Financial Aid, Bursar’s Office, and the Office of International Education. Her versatile experience along with her passion for being a resource for first-generation, underrepresented, and Spanish speaking communities, have allowed her to provide valuable resources to student’s success. Knowing that she once stood in many of the students’ same shoes she knows she can continue to impact more first-generation underrepresented students with diverse backgrounds in her new role.
Angie also co-founded a foundation with her husband called Mi Leyenda Foundation, whose purpose is to promote academic achievement for first-generation students who want to leave a legacy. The foundation gave out its first annual Mi Leyenda Scholarship to a high school graduate in 2023 and hopes to continue making an impact in her local community going forward. In her free time, Angie enjoys going to CU Buffs football games with her husband (her college sweetheart) …even when the Buffs were not at their best. She also enjoys time with her cat Oliver and golden retriever Ralphie.
