A CUPD officer teaches an active harmer response classThe University of Colorado Boulder Police Department offers a presentation on Active Harmer Response. This presenations is designed for students, faculty and staff of the CU Boulder campus and are generally held for the entire office staff or a group of combined offices who share work space.

The presentation will review basic statistical data as well as watching and discussing the video “Run. Hide. Fight” as a group. If you would like to watch the "Ride. Hide. Fight." video on your own, you can do so here. The class will also discuss how you should react if you ever find yourself in an active harmer and other threatening situations. Every effort is made to address concerns, dispel myths and develop response options. The presenations lasts between 60 and 90 minutes and introduces attendees to the basic response options for these frightening situations.

As an additional option of this training, we will come to your office space and conduct a site security assessment. Through that, we can provide recommendations for enhancing workplace safety.

Then, our Emergency Managmeent division can assist you in the creation of, or the update of, an emergency action plan for your work space. This will include evacuation plans, shelter in place plans and how to maintain the continuity of operations. Then, the Emergency Management team can provide you with a table top exercise test your new or updated emergency action plan and make sure that everyone understands the plan and that the plan is functional.

If your work team is interested in starting these classes or if you would like more information, please contact the CU Police Department Training Officer at 303-492-8168, option 4.
