Student artwork featured in the UMC

Known as the campus “living room,” thousands of people visit the University Memorial Center (UMC) every day to grab a bite to eat, enjoy free entertainment, study or just hang out. Additionally, the UMC is proud to feature original artwork of CU Boulder students. Through the UMC Student Arts Program, students have the opportunity to share their art with the Buff community.

Every year, the UMC Student Arts Program collects and displays a wide variety of original student artwork. Submissions are accepted during the fall semester and are reviewed by a panel of judges comprised of CU Boulder students, staff and faculty.

The program aims to include artwork reflecting a variety of subjects and media. Artwork themes include lived experiences, personal aspirations, wildlife and nature, current issues and more. The number of pieces selected each year is dependent on the number of submissions, quality of the work and the decisions of the judging committee.

There are currently 48 pieces from 32 different artists featured in the UMC. Work is displayed on the second, third and fourth floors and will likely expand to additional areas in the future. Each spring, the UMC hosts an Art Walk to highlight and recognize the new artwork and artists in the program.

The UMC Student Arts Program is a meaningful way for students to share and gain recognition for their artwork. Learn more about the art and artists featured in the program.
