Second semester tips

Staying active and healthy during the semester
It’s winter in Colorado, and this means the weather can be cold and unreliable with snow and clouds making regular appearances. For students, it can be easy to get stuck sitting inside working on homework or just avoiding the weather. However, staying active and healthy during these winter months can be a big mood booster and actually help students be more productive and happier even when it isn't so nice outside!

Here are some resources, ideas, and tips to share with your student when the weather gets them stuck:

Nutrition Series

As college students on a tight budget, it is easy to reach for cheap snacks like chips to fulfill hunger, and this is more appealing when bad weather makes a grocery trip seem like a big committment. The Rec is offering a free nutrition series to help students think more about how they eat and how it can improve their overall health. Share these sessions

Get Up and Move

The Rec also offers a wide variety of options to help students get moving, even when the weather outside is frightful! Encourage your student to check out intramural sports or fitness classes. In addition, the outdoor program can help students safely get out in the winter weather for hiking, skiing, or other activities! Encourage fitness options

Ski Bus

So your student is a ski buff? Finding a ride or car and dealing with traffic to Colorado’s most popular skiing destinations can make a day at the mountain a challenge. To help, the Environmental Center offers students a lift to and from popular mountains! Tickets sell out fast, so your student should book those as soon as they can. Learn more about Ski Bus

Zip Car at CU

Owning a car can be expensive, and although public transportation in Boulder is great, it can be limited outside of our immediate area. However, Zip Car is a low cost option coming to CU Boulder to help students get out more easily! Parking spots are found campus and allow students to quickly pick up a car and start exploring. Learn more about Zip Car

Free productivity workshop for students
Is your student easily distracted? Are they putting things off for as long as possible? Wardenburg Health Services can help!

This semester, the Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) department of Wardenburg will be facilitating a free productivity workshop called, "Getting It Done". This three week workshop will help students overcome low motivation, beat procrastination, and set goals to keep their mind moving forward!
