My lab studies a variety of critical factors that affect students as they learn biology, such as how students learn successful problem solving skills and engage in metacognitive and self-reflective practices, as well as developing tools for both students and instructors to engage productively in the learning process. In past work, we have developed concept assessments to diagnose student misunderstandings and measure learning gains, and attitudes assessments to gauge students’ views of biology. We are particularly interested in developing and promoting teaching methodologies that facilitate inclusivity, engagement and success for all students.
