My main research interests are functional and structural analyses by 3-D cryo-electron microscopy of cytoskeletal assemblies and large macromolecular structures as well as cellular organelles. We apply cryo-electron tomography to investigate the structure function relationships of large macromolecular assemblies and cellular organelles within their native cytosolic environment. We operate three FEI-Tecnai electron microscopes, and soon a Titan Krios, all of them equipped with the latest data recording systems. Our current projects are the following: Structure & function of heterodimeric kinesin motor domains, interactions of microtubules with MAPs, and structural studies on the Giardia cytoskeleton.
