Must RSVP (see contacts below).

On Feb. 13th, Dr. Jay Dunn (with Agilent) will be leading a seminar and workshop to assist users with the BioCore’s Seahorse XF24 analyzer. If you are interested in attending the workshop, or would like to connect with Dr. Dunn, please contact Dustin Quandt or Dr. Dunn.

Current Seahorse users at CU Boulder are running samples from mice and python, however the range of samples that can be analyzed by this instrument is very wide and new uses continue to emerge.

What is the Seahorse XF24?

  • The XF24 Extracellular Flux Analyzer is a 24 well tissue culture microplate system that measures oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and extracellular acidification rate (ECAR) of living cells simultaneously in real time.
  • The system provides completely non-invasive measurements without addition of dyes, labels or reporters. Released in late 2006, the XF24 Analyzer was and continues to be entirely unique to the biomedical research field.
  • Up to four reagents/drugs can be released during analysis and OCR and ECAR can be measured in real time.
  • This instrument may be FREE for you to use, please inquire with the BioCore manager.

About the seminar and workshop: The general schedule is below and covers about 5-6 hours total.

1.A seminar on how the Seahorse works, the types of products we have for running Seahorse assays, and how to set up initial assays

2.We (attendees) run a hands on assay, typically the ATP Rate Production Assay or maybe the Cell Mitochondrial Stress Test

3.Agilent provided lunch during which I give a seminar on what you can do with the Seahorse, i.e., types of assays and data you can get.

4.Use of WAVE software and analytical tools using our assay as the sample. If time permits, we can look at other types of assays, with regard to data analysis, from the myriad data files I have.

5.Dr. Dunn is happy to discuss your individual interests and questions that day as time permits, or he can certainly schedule a phone call.

One good place for information, is the Agilent XF Learning Center,,where all of these topics are covered at your own pace.
