Stampede Camp Purpose

Dear Buff,
First, I would like to thank you for considering applying to become a Stampeder as an option for your first steps on our campus. If you are considering becoming a Stampede Mentor, I thank you for continuing the movement that is Social Change Leadership and putting the education from camp into action. Without both incoming campers and returning mentors, we would not be able to continue the rumbling of the stampede through our residence halls and larger campus community.
Stampede Camp is a staff directed, student facilitated, leadership development program for incoming first year residential students at the University of Colorado Boulder. The Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) began the tradition of Stampede Camp in 2006. Since then Stampede Camp has continued to grow while centering three main goals for incoming Buffs.
- To help incoming students build a cohort of fellow student leaders early in their collegiate career
- To help student leaders explore their identity as a leader at the collegiate level through the Social Change Model of leadership
- To introduce RHA, NRHH, and Community Council as organizations to take part in to continue a yearlong leadership development experience
Each year, an incoming group of students becomes immersed in this program and takes their first steps on their leadership journey. Throughout the program, students have the ability to push themselves out of their comfort zone, connect with other people from around the world, and put the social change model into action on our campus. Students have the unique opportunity of creating a yearlong passion project with their peers and creating a call for action around identified student needs as a group.
Among these goals and skills, Stampede provides something invaluable to you. The program allows you to start developing your sense of home at CU Boulder. The people that you meet in this program may become future housemates, lifelong friends, or a Buff that you reach out to in a time of need. Having this time to make connections with others in your cohort is unique to a few early arrival programs at CU Boulder and we cannot wait to have you as a part of the new stampede.
SkoBuffs and CU Soon!
