Sheela wins the 2021 Journal of Heredity Outstanding Student Authored Paper Award!

Huge congratulations to Sheela and her coauthors, including Georgy, for winning the 2021 Journal of Heredity Outstanding Student Authored Paper Award for her paper “Variable Signatures of Selection Despite Conserved Recombination Landscapes Early in Speciation” . Sheela and Georgy's paper was also selected as the Editor's Choice of the Oct 2021 issue in which it was published. The data analyzed in the paper was generated using EECG Research Awards from the AGA awarded to Sheela and Georgy.
Sheela's work rose to the top among 11 student-led articles published in 2021 considered by the AGA Publications Committee. Sheela's paper received high praise:
“A very good explanation of a complex topic with sound implementation of methods and analyses. This reads like a tour de force describing the factors linking of recombination and landscapes of genomic differentiation.”
“A really interesting topic in a really well-executed comparative analysis across multiple species in 3 bird clades.”
“Rarely do studies focus on the confounding role that variable recombination rates across the genome might play in shaping patterns of genomic differentiation.”
As the Outstanding Student Paper awardee, Sheela will receive a one-year AGA membership, an award certificate, a $2,000 prize, and the opportunity to attend the 2022 annual AGA Presidential Symposium to present a 15-minute talk on your research.
Congratulations Sheela on this well-deserved award!
