Eric manages the Raman Microspectroscopy lab at the Department of Geological Sciences at CU-Boulder, developing applications of Raman spectroscopy and Raman imaging for characterizing minerals, biological samples, fluids, and dissolved gasses. Spencer is focused on how the mineralogy and petrology of actively serpentinizing rocks affects the potential for microbial habitability. She is particularly interested in low-temperature, late-stage mineral formation and its relationship with hydrogen gas production. Spencer hopes to use micro-computed tomography to further understand the interior petrologic structure of the Samail ophiolite cores.
