Mice Quickly Experience Liver Damage in Microgravity

Our collaborator, Karen Jonscher (Associate Prof. at CU Denver School of Medicine), just published work in PLoS One showing that mice from our STS-135 Space Shuttle mission show liver damage after only ~13 days in microgravity. The most alarming aspect of this work is that these mice were relatively young (only 9 weeks of age at launch) yet they developed characteristics of aging.  Check out a press release on the Space Website and the article on the PLOS Journal Website! You can also contact Dr. Jonscher if you have any questions about her research.
