Get Seed Funding

Get Seed Funding (GSF) is a CU Boulder program, hosted by the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative, that provides micro-funding for undergraduate and graduate students with entrepreneurial ideas in the making. Run by a student-led team, GSF hosts weekly pitch sessions where applicants present their ideas and can be awarded up to $500 in seed funding to move projects forward. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by the GSF team, making it easy to jump in at any stage of your journey.

Have an idea—or see a problem you can solve? GSF can help you take your vision from concept to action, fast! By lowering barriers and providing funding support, the program empowers you to experiment, innovate, and gain the confidence, skills, and momentum to succeed.

How does it work?

What CAN be funded?

Here are a few examples of expenses GSF can cover:

  • Prototyping materials (hardware, building supplies, 3D printing filament, fabric, tools)
  • Market research & customer discovery (food for focus groups, printing costs for flyers, survey tools)
  • Business development essentials (domain name, business cards, software, website design tools)ely to receive funding unless there is an outstanding reason why seed funding will help your business flourish.

What can not be funded?

  • Travel, salaries, and one-time or promotional events
  • Hiring contractors (e.g., designers, developers) or renting/purchasing office space
  • Equipment and items not essential to the business, like laptops or cell phones
  • Note: If your venture has already generated $1,000+ in profit, you’re still welcome to pitch, but funding is less likely unless you can demonstrate a compelling reason additional seed money will help your business grow.
