It is my pleasure to welcome Jieqiu Shao, or Jay, as the newest member of the ROCC lab.

Jay approached me at the end of last semester, asking if he could work on a summer project for the control or an UAV carrying a suspended load. After three months of very fruitful discussions, Jay has opted to conduct his MS thesis in mechanical engineering at our lab. Despite having no physics background, Jay will be working on the Control of Optical Atomic Lattices for Quantum Inertial Sensing, proving once again the transferrability of Control Theory to a variety of application fields.

I am very excited about the project and have faith that Jay's enthusiasm will help him overcome the particularly steep learning curve of Quantum Control.
