Environmental Studies + Leadership Studies Minor

The Environmental Studies major covers topics in the environmental and sustainability fields. Students in the program examine the intersection of science, policy and human values, as applied to environmental issues, across disciplines and acquire the skills and knowledge needed to help solve global, national, regional and local environmental challenges.
The leadership studies minor prepares tomorrow's leaders to ethically lead through a combination of academic coursework, self-reflection and team projects.

Political Science + Environmental Planning Minor

The Political Science major offers instruction in the scientific study of politics and provides students with the skills necessary for a lifetime of inquiry, engagement and analysis. Courses explore various facets of the political world, including the fields of American government and politics, comparative politics, public policy, political theory, empirical theory and methodology, and international relations.
The Environmental Planning Minor teaches students what it takes to facilitate the decision-making to carry out urban planning, urban design, land development and natural resource conservation with consideration of environmental, social, political and economic factors.

The Philosophy major trains students to think rigorously about the deepest and most difficult questions we can ask about the world and our place in it. Students learn about both contemporary and historical philosophers as well as philosophical movements. Additionally philosophy majors gain skills in logical argument and critical examination as well as argument and written and oral communication.
The Certificate in Peace, Conflict and Security Studies is designed to help students explore why conflict and violence occur, and to develop practical, nonviolent skills to analyze, intervene and resolve conflicts in their personal life, in their communities and between countries.

International Affairs + Global Environment Affairs Certificate

International affairs majors begin their studies with a survey of the most compelling global issues of the day and then go on to detailed analyses of international relations and economics. Courses also focus on problems of international development, the environment, international economic relations and United States foreign policy.
The Global Environmental Affairs certificate allows students to engage with real world problems and deepen their understanding of global environmental policies and practices.

International Affairs + Arctic Studies

International affairs majors begin their studies with a survey of the most compelling global issues of the day and then go on to detailed analyses of international relations and economics. Courses also focus on problems of international development, the environment, international economic relations and United States foreign policy.
The certificate in Arctic Studies addresses pressing environmental, political and cultural issues in the far north. A laboratory for studying the effects of global climate change, the arctic region spans three continents, with territories in Canada, Greenland (Denmark), Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Russia and the United States.

Leadership & Community Engagement + Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Minor

The Leadership & Community Engagement major prepares ethical, skilled leaders committed to addressing complex public challenges in our nation and across the world. Through this program, students develop a deep conceptual understanding of theories of leadership, public policy and social change.
Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences provides students with an in-depth understanding of the physical basis for the role of the atmosphere and oceans in Earth's climate system. The program examines the dynamical, physical and chemical processes that occur in the atmosphere and ocean, and trains students to develop quantitative solutions to real-world problems
