Strategic Communication + Sociology Minor

The Strategic Communication Majors explore ways to strategically build brands and engage audiences across multiple media platforms. The major prepares students for careers that combine account and media management with research design and execution, data analysis and strategy development.
The sociology minor provides students an in-depth look at human social behavior. Students will study how society influences individuals, how individuals influence society, and will learn how to describe and explain the actions of persons, groups, organizations, classes and entire societies.

Information Science + Cognitive Science Certificate

Information Science majors learn to collect, analyze and interpret many different information sources to understand our world. They study how we interact with all things digital, including software, devices and algorithms, and are able to create social and technological solutions that are truly engaging for those who use them, apply those solutions to real problems, and evaluate their effectiveness.
Training in cognitive science prepares students admirably well for many of the fields that are targeted as the major growth fields of the 21st century: telecommunications, information processing, medical analysis, data retrieval, education and multimedia. As the world is enveloped by the information age, cognitive scientists will be uniquely positioned to deal with this information.

Media Studies + Communication Minor

The media studies program emphasizes the creative and analytical skills needed to make sense of current and future trends in media, and to gain a deep understanding of the history and development of various means and forms of communication. Explorations of media theory, history, criticism, practices, popular culture, technology and emerging cultures are enhanced by practical training in media design, storytelling, digital art, online community engagement, documentary filmmaking and social media.
The Communication minor explores how communication shapes everything we do in society. It teaches students how to design innovative messages, build quality personal and professional relationships, foster critical thinking skills, and prepares students to thrive in a variety of professions.

Communication + Business Minor

The Communication major provides students with the resources to understand how communication processes create our social worlds, the abilities to analyze those processes and the practical skills to communicate in their professional, personal and civic lives. Students learn how to design innovative messages, build quality personal and professional relationships, and elevate their critical thinking skills.
The Business Minor introduces students to the fundamentals of business through classes in marketing, management, finance and accounting. In addition to these topics, students choose one of the five “track” options in which they’d like to further explore. Options include Innovation, Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Global Business or Real Estate.

International Affairs + International Media Certificate

International affairs majors begin their studies with a survey of the most compelling global issues of the day and then go on to detailed analyses of international relations and economics. Courses also focus on problems of international development, the environment, international economic relations and United States foreign policy.
The International Media Certificate allows students to explore careers in international reporting, advertising, and entertainment. Students will acquire the context and perspective necessary to understand the debates and issues that dominate contemporary geo-politics.
