Student perspective: Pinterest and Popcorn
Pop into Pinterest and Popcorn
Between running from class to class and studying, it can be easy to forget about having fun and taking breaks. Are you looking for a fun way to unwind and meet new people? Look no further than Pinterest and Popcorn. This weekly event is a great opportunity to learn how to make fun crafts that often times make the perfect decoration or gift.
Pinterest and Popcorn
Pinterest and Popcorn is a program offered by the Center for Student Involvement.
These free weekly craft projects take place on Wednesdays from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Center for Student Involvement Resource Center (UMC 330). Sign-up for the event takes place at 4:30 p.m., thirty minutes before the class begins. There will be an instructor to lead you through the project.
Personal experience
My experiences with Pinterest and Popcorn have been great. I find myself always look forward to crafting each week. During the times I attended I was able to make my own blanket as well as make my own perler bead creations. One of the upcoming events is making a side table, which could be perfect for furnishing a future living space.
I always feel welcome and comfortable during these events. The room is always stocked with the craft supplies needed for that night's activity which made me feel like I was back at home with my mom working on arts and crafts. There is no pressure and bringing your friends makes it even more fun. If you’re looking for a free on-campus activity where you can hang out with your friends and give your mind a study break, this is the place for you!
Why should you go?
Taking breaks from studying is good for your mental health and working with your hands is a great way to do that. Finding something fun to do isn’t always easy and gathering supplies for projects can be costly. Luckily, this is free and everything is provided. Each week there is a new craft so you can potentially walk away learning a new skill! This is also a great way to meet others in a casual way and bond with fellow crafters.
