Students talking in classroom

It’s normal to be uncertain of what you want to do after college. Many students experience these feelings well beyond their first semester. The good news is there are many different ways to reach your career goals, and your advisor is here to help. Here are three tips for figuring out your future plans.

Explore degree plans

Check out the “I want to…” series to explore degree programs and pathways to achieve your career goals. This series gives information about career paths and the different majors that may lead to that career. Make sure to check out the five most surprising majors that can get you there!

Develop a variety of skills

Your major does not necessarily dictate your career after college. In fact, many people end up working in an industry that does not directly relate to what they studied in college. Figuring out what you want to do after graduation is perfectly normal.

As you consider future careers, think of the technical and non-technical skills you’ll need. There are many skills you can develop that apply in every profession. These include communication, problem solving, leadership, teamwork and more. Explore different courses and opportunities outside the classroom to help you acquire a variety of skills.

Remember—you have help!
