Jamie Heisig-Mitchell is Chief of Technical Services for HRSD, a wastewater utility serving over 1.7 million people in southeast Virginia.  In support of HRSD’s vision that future generations will inherit clean waterways and be able to keep them clean, she manages staff involvement in numerous research studies related to water quality including microbial source tracking; occurrence, fate and transport of emerging contaminants; and algal bloom formation.  In addition, she is responsible for HRSD’s permit negotiations and provides regulatory compliance oversight.  In that capacity, she is actively engaged in the implementation of HRSD’s Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow (SWIFT), interfacing with the regulators to define an appropriate permitting framework for managed aquifer recharge in Virginia. Jamie serves on the board of the Virginia Association of Municipal Wastewater Agencies (VAMWA), is Chair of VAMWA’s Water Quality Committee, President of the Virginia Biosolids Council, and has served on numerous Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Advisory Panels and Subcommittees such as the recent water quality standards review panels, and multiple Eastern Virginia Groundwater Management Area Subcommittees.   Jamie received her MS from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
