ENVD Alumni Edition - January 2019

As we enter 2019, the Program in Environmental Design is actively engaged in a number of exciting changes. As alumni of ENVD we want you to be aware of, and be a part of, these exciting changes. The start of the Alumni Newsletter is intended to help us stay in contact and help you stay in touch with ENVD. A primary goal of mine is to make sure that the ENVD community includes as broad a base of alumni as we can connect. You are a critical part of this program and we want 2019 to be the year of reconnection for our alumni.

Since assuming the position of Director last July, I have been putting in place the foundation of what I believe will be the next generation of ENVD. A few of the initiatives that we are undertaking:

• Curriculum Restructuring – The faculty and staff have collaboratively developed a new curriculum that is going to give students more flexibility as well as increase their depth of expertise in their specializations. The students are currently transitioning to the new curriculum and it will be in full implementation this coming fall semester.
• Renovations – Both our main building and the CINC are undergoing some much-needed upgrading. New furniture, partitions, message monitors, and classroom modifications are all being implemented. The main building will have a new gallery this summer – watch for an announcement on the gallery opening later this semester.
• Professional Engagement – ENVD is putting in place plans to greatly enhance connections with the professional community as well as with our alumni – stay tuned!
• New Hires – ENVD will have between seven and nine new full-time faculty this summer. This will greatly enhance our program and bring new areas of expertise to ENVD.

These are only a few of the exciting developments occurring in ENVD. It is my goal to make the alumni community a greater part of these plans and build an even stronger future for the program. Please take a moment to send us your updated information and if you are around campus, please stop by and see the new things happening in ENVD.

On May 2, ENVD will be holding an open house to celebrate the ENVD community. Student work will be on display throughout the building. The open house is an opportunity for alumni, design professionals, students, faculty and staff to engage with one another.
