Associate Professor Jota Samper received the 2024 ESC Excellence in Faculty Community Engagement Award for the Medellin Practicum/Studio. The ESC Excellence Awards Program recognizes faculty, staff, students, and higher education institutions and their exemplary contributions to scholarship and the practice of community-engaged scholarship.
Associate Teaching Professor Emily Greenwood was recognized as a 2024 Women Who Make a Difference. Teaching Professor Jade Polizzi nominated Greenwood as an outstanding educator who has made an extraordinary impact on her students and for her contribution to the ENVD community.
Teaching Professor Marianne Holbert was elected as Chair of the University of Colorado Boulder Campus-Wide Education Abroad Committee (EAC). This appointment reflects her significant contributions to education abroad, committee leadership and commitment to expanding global learning opportunities.
Assistant Professor Nesrine Mansour was awarded a Faculty Success Program Grant from CU Boulder to participate in the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) in spring 2025. Mansour also joined the Board of Directors of the Architecture, Culture, and Spirituality Forum (ACSF), an international architectural organization.
Associate Teaching Professor Azza Kamalpublished a chapter on the role of geospatial thinking and low-impact development practices at water management sites for Rethinking Stormwater Management through Sustainable Urban Design. Kamal also presented A Qualitative Review of Supportive Service in Housing First PSH Program at the Conference of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning in Seattle.
Assistant Professor Elena Sabinson spoke at the Women in Design 8x8 in Denver and presented on designing neuro-inclusive and accessible spaces at AIA Colorado’s Generate 2024 Practice + Design Conference. Sabinson also appeared on the Work Better podcast to discuss how professional environments can more effectively support diverse needs, especially neurodivergence.
Postdoctoral Associate and Lecturer Sophie Weston Chien was accepted to the Association for Community Design's Circles of Practice Fellowship. Her work was showcased in the Cover Me Softly exhibition in Timișoara, Romania for the 2024 Beta Architecture Biennial. Chien also sat on a panel at the MIT Museum to share her design collaborative’s large-scale textile series, Soft City. Starting Jan. 17, her work will be featured in The Threads That Tie Us, a show at the Arts Collaborative Medford in Massachusetts.
In a Denver Post op-ed, Professor Kevin Krizek made the case for greater road safety through infrastructure and traffic law improvements.
Caitlin Charlet, Elena Sabinson and Jota Samperreceived Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) grants for the 2024-25 academic year.
Five ENVD faculty secured grants through the Office for Public and Community-Engaged Scholarship. Congratulations to Jota Samper, Val Henao, Shawhin Roudbari, Zannah Matson and Sophie Chien.
