Notify Radiation Safety of any incident involving radiological materials.

CU Boulder holds a Broad-Scope Radioactive Materials License issued by the Colorado Department of Health and Environment in agreement with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This license allows the use of radioactive material on the CU Boulder and UCCS campuses within the oversight of the CU Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) and Radiation Safety Office. The safe and compliant use of X-ray machines in research on both campuses also falls under the oversight of the RSC in conjunction with the Radiation Safety Office.

The RSC is a faculty oversight committee charged with ensuring the compliance of the university with the issued license and all federal and state regulations pertaining to radiation safety. The RSC meets quarterly to review new license applications, approve amendments, and formalize license terminations. The RSC and Radiation Safety Office have the authority to take action to bring a laboratory back into compliance with regulations in order to protect the University and continue the authorization to use radiation under the broad-scope license. Individual PIs may submit applications to use ionizing radiation to be evaluated and approved by the RSC via the Radiation Safety Office. Please plan ahead to allow time for proper review of proposed work and facilities before it can be given authorization to proceed.

Applications below can be filled out at sent to radsafety@colorado.edu for initial evaluation.

Note: Any research involving ionizing radiation must be approved before work begins.
