In Janurary, Provost Russell Moore announced his appointment of Amanda Haertling Thein as dean of the School of Education, effective July 1. Thein is a nationally recognized scholar in literacy education with a passion for the work of educational democracy. “I am truly honored to have this opportunity to lead a community that shares my deep commitment to educational opportunity, public education as a bulwark of democracy, and public scholarship that asks vital questions and provides answers that serve students, teachers and schools across Colorado and the nation,” Thein said.

An 80,000 word PhD thesis in three minutes? PhD Student Anna Deese is one of  11 finalists in the annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition that celebrates graduate students while they explain their research in three minutes or less. Deese will present "Fixing Problems of Local Control" TODAY Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom, with a livestream available.

This upcoming talk in the Education Research Speakers Series presents the case of Paraguay’s Spanish-Guaraní context as a case study. Valentina Canese is a visiting Fulbright Scholar and faculty at the Instituto Superior de Lenguas, Universidad Nacional de Asunción in Paraguay. She will explore the critical roles of leadership, policy, and community involvement in bilingual teacher preparation by examining how these elements shape teacher education.
