Best Should Teach K-12 Educator Nominations

We invite each of our partner districts to participate in CU Boulder's Best Should Teach Awards. The Best Should Teach awards are presented annually to CU faculty and area public school teachers to recognize and reward excellence in teaching. The Best Should Teach Initiative, originally conceived by Dr. Lindley J. Stiles (1913-2008), is managed by the Center for Teaching and Learning in coordination with the School of Education and partners.

We are seeking teacher nominees who embody the beliefs, skills and dispositions of exemplary teachers, such as the following:

  • Believes that all students can learn and is dedicated to meeting each student’s unique needs
  • Maintains professionalism as a lifelong learner and reflective practitioner
  • Exhibits strong pedagogy and a high level of knowledge in their subject area(s)
  • Gives back to the teaching profession by mentoring others, partnering with parents and collaborating with colleagues to formulate instructional policy and staff/curriculum development

To nominate an exemplary teacher for the Best Should Teach award, please submit one to two letters of nomination—one from the nominee’s administrator, a teacher-colleague, student and/or parent. The letter should include information on:

  • Nominee’s Teaching History/Short biography to be read at the ceremony—grade levels/subjects taught, years of experience, etc.   
  • A brief description of how the nominee demonstrates the characteristics, beliefs, dispositions and skills of the Best Should Teach motto, as identified above
  • Any special accomplishments, awards and/or recognitions
  • Any other unique characteristics of your nominee

  • Best Should Teach Lecture & Awards Ceremony 2025
  • Thursday, May 1, 6 p.m. ceremony with a reception for awardees beginning at 5 p.m.
  • Glenn Miller Ballroom, University Memorial Center, CU Boulder
  • Free and open to the public.
