Dr. Alexandria Muller is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education and Curator of Education at the University of Colorado Boulder's Museum of Natural History. Her research sits at the intersection of informal and formal learning, exploring how museums, field trips, and community partnerships can foster equitable STEM engagement and lifelong scientific identity. Drawing on design-based implementation research, participatory action research, and qualitative methods, her work spans three interconnected lines of inquiry: how students develop scientific identity through authentic practices and real scientific tools; how learning can be meaningfully extended beyond the museum walls and into classrooms and communities; and how interdisciplinary and multilingual voices can be centered in museum education. Her scholarship has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and has produced curricular resources, professional development programs, and research-practice partnerships with informal science institutions across the country.
At CU Boulder, Dr. Muller is committed to mentoring the next generation of museum educators and researchers. She works closely with the Museum of Natural History to develop co-created curricular materials, expand community partnerships, and study how engagement with scientific artifacts and collections shapes students' sense of belonging in STEM. She is deeply invested in building bridges between institutions, disciplines, and the people who make learning possible and looks forward to collaborating with faculty, students, and community partners to advance equitable, joyful science education in Colorado and beyond.
