CU Boulder professor Phaedra C. Pezzullo emphasizes the need for a new approach to environmental storytelling to effectively address crises like plastic pollution and climate change, advocating for more engaging narratives that inspire action. Her work, including a podcast and award-winning book, highlights how interdisciplinary research and storytelling can help communicate the urgency of environmental issues.
CU Boulder's Sustainability Leadership Team is driving key initiatives, like updates to the Climate Action Plan dashboard and the new CHAP building’s LEED Gold certification, which are shaping the campus’s sustainability future. Students can get involved by sharing sustainability ideas and staying informed on how these changes will impact campus life, including the expansion of the North Boulder Creek utility system to support a greener, more energy-efficient campus.
The EPA's new rule mandates replacing all lead drinking water pipes in the U.S. within a decade, a critical move following the Flint water crisis. CU Boulder’s Julie Korak discusses the health risks of lead exposure, particularly for children, and what’s being done to replace old pipes. Boulder has already ensured its water is lead-free, and CU students can stay informed about the ongoing efforts nationwide to eliminate lead pipes and protect public health.
