The Campus Sustainability Summit (CSS) is an annual information-sharing forum which features updates and strategic discussions on engagement, academics, and operations sustainability initiatives. Learn more about and contribute to the latest innovative developments in the legacy of sustainability at CU Boulder.

CU Boulder has held a Campus Sustainability Summit annually or semi-annually since 1994. The Campus Sustainability Summit and the Awards program are sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Infrastructure and Sustainability, and the CUSG Environmental Center

The Summit is and open to all CU Boulder students, faculty, and staff and community members.

Advance registration is encouraged for all, but it is required by April 10th if you would like lunch*.

2019 Campus Sustainability Summit Agenda

8:30 - 9:00am - Registration and Refreshments

9:00 - 9:10am - Welcome - Dave Newport, Director, CU Environmental Center

9:10 - 10:25am - Morning Plenary Panel - Leadership for Sustainability

Panelists will share the goals and strategy fueling campus sustainability momentum. Discussion will connect to the key themes that participants will explore throughout the day: student leadership, academics, innovation, health and wellness, and social justice.

10:30 - 11:45am - Connections Cafe - Fueling Innovation with Community Ideas

Participate in a fast-paced brainstorming and idea-mining session. Choose a discussion topic from 10+ campus sustainability topics. Each hosted table features a strategic question which will repeat over 3-4 rounds. This session will conclude with report-outs from table hosts. Propose a Connections Cafe discussion topic

12:30 - 1:15pm - Sustainability Award Presentations to 2019 Campus Sustainability Awardees

1:15 - 2:00pm - Afternoon Keynote - Colorado Climate Action - Will Toor, Executive Director, Colorado Energy Office

2:15 - 4:15pm - Celebrate Success - Campus Change-Makers Short Presentations

CU Boulder faculty, staff, and students, provide brief updates on a broad spectrum of campus sustainability programs and initiatives in academics, research, operations, and outreach and engagement happening on campus and with community partners. See Campus Change-Maker roster of presentations

4:15 - 4:30pm - Closing Performance - Tanaya Winder

4:30 - 5:00pm - Informal Networking

*To reduce waste, food is only ordered for advance registrants.  

Participants are welcome to attend portions of the event for sessions of interest.

Advance registration by April 10th is required for lunch.  Advance registration is not required to attend other portions of the event.  On-site registration opens at 8:30 am in the lobby of the Stadium Club (East side, Level 5).

The Summit series is dedicated to the late CU Professor Dr. Albert Bartlett, who infused his First Law of Sustainability on campus and the community. "You cannot sustain population growth and/or growth in the rates of consumption of resources."
