"The University of Colorado's Space Health Sciences program brings together faculty and students from the School of Medicine and the Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences to address one of humanity's most complex frontiers' human health and performance in spaceflight and other extreme environments. Our flagship MD/MS in Medicine and Aerospace Engineering program trains future physician-engineers to bridge disciplines and develop innovative solutions to the physiological and operational challenges of space exploration. Through our Medicine in Space and Surface Environments (MISSE) course, students apply wilderness and extreme environment medicine principles to simulated planetary missions in the Utah desert. Current research initiatives include AI-guided ultrasound for autonomous medical care, human performance optimization in isolation and microgravity, and medical system design for lunar and Martian missions. Together, these efforts aim to prepare the next generation of innovators, researchers, and clinicians who will enable safe and sustainable human presence beyond Earth."
