Sparking Curiosity and Building Community: CU Science Discovery High School Programs

Science Discovery High School Programs full poster

Steven Denham, CU Science Discovery

CU Science Discovery high school programs build connections between university science and the broader community. Through authentic, hands-on experiences with CU researchers, these programs spark curiosity and joy as high school students explore their interests and connect with STEM role models. Just as importantly, they offer STEM professionals an opportunity to develop as mentors and science communicators while sharing the impact of their research. Although our programs have impacted thousands of teens throughout Science Discovery's history, we are continually working to enhance their accessibility and effectiveness. Here, we discuss the successes, challenges, and opportunities within our four core Science Discovery high school programs: STEM Summer Classes, STEM Research Experience, Teen Science Cafe, and STEM Mentors. Visit our poster if you'd like to learn more about how to get involved or share your ideas!
