Assistant Teaching Professor Yiran Duan teaches both programming-based and non-programming-based classes that explore the social, ethical, and technical dimensions of information and technology at the Information Science Department. Her teaching includes INFO 1101 Computation in Society, an online asynchronous course examining the societal and cultural implications of computing; INFO 1701 Introduction to Programming, which introduces students to foundational programming concepts and computational thinking; and INFO 4601 Ethics and Policy, a discussion-driven course focused on ethical reasoning, governance, and real-world case analysis. Across these courses, she emphasizes critical thinking, reflection, and application, helping students connect technical skills and theoretical frameworks to real-world contexts and contemporary technological challenges.

She received her Ph.D. in Information Science and Technology from Syracuse University. She also received a Master's degree in Anthropology from Florida State University.
