Jean-Jacques Martinod

Jean-Jacques Martinod is a filmmaker, media artist, film curator, abyssological researcher, and clandestine anarchivist. His work is engaged within extended modes of noetic and intersubjective experience, manifest in an ongoing practice of experimental documentary cinema. The human/non-human, folk mythology, anemic memory, sur-regional biomes, hydra techno-logics, relating with living worlds and engaging in poetic mediation within these systems and their extended cohabitant. His first book, Arkta Cirklo, a multimedia experimental novel created in collaboration with Paulus van Horne and Bretta C. Walker, was published by Inside the Castle in 2026.

 

Martinod’s work has been showcased in leading festivals, museums, and cinematheques worldwide, including the IFFR International Film Festival Rotterdam, FIDMarseille, Sheffield Doc/Fest, First Look at MoMI, CIFF Camden, Novos Cinemas Pontevedra, Frontera Sur, EMAF, PHI Centre Montreal, Cinemateca do MAM Rio de Janeiro, Cineteca Nacional de México, Cinemateca Nacional del Ecuador, among many others.

 

He received his MFA from Concordia University where he was a member of the Centre for Expanded Poetics, The Global Emergent Media Lab, and Fabrique-mondes Research Group. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Emergent Technologies and Media Arts Practices at the University of Colorado where he is an affiliated researcher at the Center for Documentary Media.
