Ashley Carter is an assistant teaching professor of journalism. She studies gender and identity in the sports media industry. More specifically she is interested in how the new media landscape has shaped the way sports are covered.
Her teaching and research are inspired by her own experience working as a journalist and sports photographer over the last 10 years. Her news stories and articles have appeared in Time, The Denver Post, Triathlete, and more. As a sports photographer, she has covered numerous endurance events, including the Tour de France and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
When Ashley is not working in sports media, she competes worldwide in long and middle-distance triathlons.
Ashley’s award-winning scholarly work has appeared in multiple peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Communication, New Media & Society, and Howard Journal of Communication.
She is a PhD candidate in journalism studies, earned an MA in Journalism, and her undergraduate degree is in Spanish.
