Dinfin K. Mulupi is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Dinfin’s research interests focus on the experiences of journalists, the professional practice of journalism, and the ethical guidelines and newsroom policies that govern the work of journalists across various geographical contexts. Dinfin’s previous research has examined the experiences of women journalists in the Global South, the representation of marginalized communities in the press, and news coverage of sexual violence. Dinfin’s research draws on feminist knowledge (e.g., standpoint epistemology, ethics of care, etc.) to theorize pathways to better journalistic practices.

Dinfin’s peer-reviewed journal articles have been published in Journalism Practice, Feminist Media Studies, Women’s Studies in Communication, African Journalism Studies and The Communication Review. She has also contributed chapters to The Routledge Companion to News and Journalism, and Reporting on Rape Culture in Sub-Saharan Africa During the #MeToo Era. Originally from Kenya, Dinfin previously worked as a business journalist in Nairobi covering the East African region.

Dinfin earned a Ph.D. from the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. She also holds an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of Nairobi (Kenya), and an Erasmus Mundus MA in Journalism, Media, and Globalization from Aarhus University (Denmark) and City, University of London (UK).
