Information Science
Joshua Paup is a first-year PhD student in the Information Science Department with That Recommender Systems Lab under the supervision of Robin Burke. Prior to starting the PhD program, Joshua was advised by Casey Fiesler while completing his MS in information science. Joshua holds a BA in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Colorado Boulder, completed in August 2021.
He is interested in the design and governance of recommender systems for open-sourced and community-governed social media platforms such as Mastodon and Bluesky. Other research interests of his include content moderation, the governance of online communities, and technology policy and law.
