José "Joe" Izaguirre

José "Joe" G. Izaguirre III is assistant professor in the Department of
Communication at the University of Colorado Boulder. He specializes in
public rhetoric(s), rhetorical histories, and the aesthetics of
politics, exploring how de/coloniality, race, and political power
influence formulations of Latinx political identities in vernacular
spaces and in institutional settings. His book Becoming La Raza:
Negotiating Race in the Chican@ Movement(s) published with The
Pennsylvania State University Press brings together many of these
inquiries.
Dr. Izaguirre is the recipient of the following awards:
- 2022: Outstanding Journal Article Award for 2022, Latina & Latino Communication Studies Division of the National Communication Association
- 2021: Charles Kneupper Award for "Most Outstanding Article Published in Rhetoric Society Quarterly in 2020," Rhetoric Society of America
