Joëlle M. Cruz (Ph.D., Texas A&M University) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication. Building on postcolonial approaches, Joëlle is interested in rethinking and expanding what constitutes the “margins” in organizational communication. To this extent, she focuses on the interface between the following: (1) alternative organizational logics and forms (indigenous and grassroots modes of organizing), (2) cultural assumptions in organizational communication scholarship (3) and (3) globalization. Examples of projects have included women’s indigenous organizing in postconflict Liberia, LGBTQ grassroots organizing and political homophobia in Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia, and community organizing during and after the Ebola crisis in Liberia. Her work has appeared in Management Communication Quarterly, Organization: The Critical Journal of Organization, Theory, and Society, and Women’s Studies in Communication among other venues.
