Questioning the beliefs that people are rational and loyal to brands in a debate with his business school economics professor was a clear sign that Dave wanted to be in marketing and not econ. After finishing his MBA, Dave met an advertising recruiter who felt his athletic background and nonconformist beliefs would be perfect for a planner job working on Nike at Wieden + Kennedy. Dave joined W+K in 1997 and spent the next 20 years working at the world's most iconoclastic advertising agencies including: Wieden+Kennedy, BBH, and Crispin Porter Bogusky. After moving to Boulder Colorado he continued to freelance for award-winning creative agencies like 72andSunny, Anomaly, and Grey New York. He has inspired and produced campaigns for the world's leading brands such as Nike, Levi’s, Samsung Mobile, P&G, CocaCola, Hershey’s, Microsoft, Toyota, and Gillette. In 2021 Dave joined the faculty of the University of Colorado’s School of Advertising, PR and Design teaching three courses: Consumer Insights, Brands and Culture, and History of Advertising.
