Fernhill Build Studio Student Videographer

Fernhill Build Studio (builtbyfernhill.com) is looking for a student videographer to work with them.

DETAILS:

  • Located in Boulder, Lyons, and Golden 
  • Pay is $30-$40/hour depending on experience 
  • Working 6-8 hours a week hybrid with the in-person part usually consolidated to single shooting days.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

We at Fernhill are trying to produce ongoing documentary-style media focused on high-end residential construction in the Boulder area. The content highlights architecturally driven homes, the craftspeople behind them, and the process of building at a high level.

This includes storytelling within completed homes, interviews with architects and local makers for The Build Project podcast, job site walkthroughs (for Fernhill) during construction, and coverage of select design/media events (e.g., Design in Bloom by Modern in Denver). All content is intended for use across Fernhill’s platforms, including the company’s YouTube channel.

JOB DUTIES:

The role is focused on videography and in-field production. Responsibilities include:
- Operating Sony FX cinema cameras and supporting documentary-style capture
- Managing field audio, timecode, and basic lighting setups
- Utilizing camera support equipment (gimbals, sliders, jibs, dolly systems) as needed
- Filming interviews, job site walkthroughs, and live event coverage
- Traveling to various project sites (reliable transportation required; compensation available)
- Uploading and organizing footage to a centralized NAS system for editor access

An editor is already in place, so this role is not responsible for post-production. The focus is on capturing clean, intentional footage aligned with a documentary storytelling style.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

- Working knowledge of professional video equipment, including cinema cameras (Sony FX line or similar), lenses, and basic camera settings (exposure, focus, frame rates)
- Ability to capture clean, usable audio using field recording equipment
- Basic understanding of lighting for interviews and on-site environments (We have experience and expertise to facilitate this)
- Experience with documentary-style or run-and-gun filming in dynamic settings
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to job sites and event locations
- Ability to manage and upload footage in an organized manner
