Collaborative Film Project - Gil Lab
Collaborative film project working with Gil Lab
Looking for a filmmaker/artist who would be interested in creating video-based media (e.g., a short/long film, an IMAX/planetarium feature, a series of shorts, etc.) that tells the story/ies of the research Gil lab conducts on coral reefs. They primarily use large-scale videography and AI to study the (hidden) social lives of reef fish in Curacao (off the coast of Venezuela) to better understand how coral reefs function and, thus, can be more effectively protected.
For the right match, Prof. Mike Gil could pay for that person's living expenses for a week or two while in Curacao with the lab (two PhD students, a postdoc, a lab manager, and 3 undergraduate research assistants) in the last week of May/first week of June this year (and also potentially in future years).
The ideal candidate would have substantial snorkeling and/scuba diving expedience and would be capable of shooting video effectively underwater.
This would be an unpaid gig for someone who wants to collaborate and have their expenses covered for a ~week staying with me and my lab in Curaçao. This gig would be well suited to folks wanting to build their portfolio.
Shooting video (above and below sea level) that captures our field research expedition. Editing the video into cinematic cuts and even full compositions would also be desirable.
