Professor Munoz at the red carpet premiere of West Side Story

CINE Chair and Professor Ernesto Acevedo-Muñoz is the author of West Side Story as Cinema: The Making and Impact of an American Masterpiece which made him the perfect candidate to serve on the community advisory board for Steven Spielberg's remake of West side Story.

“The Community Advisory Board brought artists, intellectuals, teachers and historians, many from Puerto Rico and the Latino community, and other groups misrepresented in 1961 movie and the (original) show to offer feedback and advice,” he says."

The full article is featured in Colorado Arts and Sciences Magazine. If you haven't watched the film yet, IFS will be screening it during the second half of the Spring 2022 calendar, with Ernesto there to introduce and discuss the film!

Congratulations Ernesto!
